As a resident in the RCP program, my research focus has been in the development of mental health care systems and services, specifically focusing on addressing health care disparities in providing mental health care in low-resource settings. My work has been focused in the integration of mental health care into primary medical care and training of non-mental health professionals. My primary interest is in Spanish-speaking populations and international mental health system development, but also in the development of local integrated mental health care systems. As a resident I worked on projects in the assessment of integrated mental health care systems both locally in Boston and in Peru.
The RCP has supported my research work in residency through amazing mentorship, protected research time, support of conference presentations, and research training and funding opportunities offered through Partners Healthcare, Harvard, and MGH. Following residency, I will complete a one-year clinical fellowship in Psychosomatic Medicine/Consultation Psychiatry to strengthen my background in collaborative care and the cross-section of medicine, psychiatry and neurology. After completing my clinical fellowship, I plan to complete a research fellowship continuing to focus on the development of global mental health systems in low-resource settings. In the future, I hope to be an independent investigator with a primary focus on implementation science research in international settings.
